DESCRIPTION:

National University of Singapore in collaboration with Kyoto University, the Centre for Maritime Studies conducted the first CMS-GCOE Workshop on Transport Logistics last 10 November 2008. There were speakers from National University of Singapore, Kyoto University and University of Melbourne discussing a wide array of topics including Hazardous Material Transportation, Disaster Response Systems, Maritime Piracy, and Transportation Models. Professors, Research Fellows, and PhD students coming from different disciplines came to attend the whole day affair listening, networking, and dynamically interacting with the presenters.

The delegation from Kyoto University, headed by Professor E. Taniguchi, was welcomed by Professor Fwa Tien Fang and the National University delegates. There were two main sessions held, composed of a total of nine (9) presentations. Each thirty (30) minute presentation was followed by a vibrant question and answer portion.
A total of thirty-one (31) delegates attended the workshop having representatives from NUS-Centre for Maritime Studies, NUS Department of Civil Engineering, NUS Department of Industrial Engineering, NUS Department of Decision Sciences, Kyoto University, and University of Melbourne.

The event was topped off by the handing of the plaque “GCOE Kyoto University – CMS National University of Singapore Transport Logistics Joint Research Centre” by Professor E. Taniguchi to CMS leaders Professor Bernard Tan and Professor Fwa Tien Fang marking off a new journey in logistics research.
