Welcoming the New MTM Cohort for AY2025/26

The Centre for Maritime Studies (CMS) was delighted to host the MTM Orientation Briefing Session for the incoming Master of Science in Maritime Technology and Management (MTM) students on 7 August 2025. The session marked the beginning of an exciting academic journey for our new cohort, offering them a glimpse into student life, programme expectations, and the vibrant maritime community in Singapore.

To break the ice, students participated in an interactive Mentimeter session, sharing their motivations for pursuing the MTM programme in Singapore. This was followed by a lively Kahoot quiz on Singapore’s maritime scene, where the top three winners emerged victorious and walked away with prizes.

The briefing session was led by Dr. Li Haobin, Academic Director of the MTM programme, who introduced key representatives from both the ISEM Office and CMS Office, outlined programme requirements, and shared the course schedule. Joining him was Prof. Chew Ek Peng, Director of CMS and one of the lecturers of the programme. The session also introduced the MTM Student Club and Student Council, which play an important role in enriching student life and fostering peer connections.

Students then took the stage for a self-introduction segment, where they shared their backgrounds and aspirations, paving the way for new friendships and collaboration.

The orientation concluded with an inspiring alumni sharing sessionMr. Phang Fu Chun, 4th MTM Student Council President, spoke about his experience in student leadership and life in the programme, while alumni Mr. Afshin Ashref and Mr. Alexios Makarezos shared their insights from the MTM5101 Maritime Industrial Attachment, highlighting the valuable industry exposure students can look forward to.

The session not only equipped students with practical information but also gave them a warm welcome into the MTM community. CMS looks forward to supporting and celebrating the achievements of this new cohort as they embark on their academic and professional journey in the maritime industry.
