Welcome to the NUS
Centre for Maritime Studies homepage. This centre is a new
university-level research centre in NUS and marks a milestone in
Singapore's bid to become an international maritime centre.
As home to the world's
largest port and second largest container port with her national
shipping line among the top 10 carriers in the world and with
marine industries led by major world players in the offshore, ship
repair and ship building sectors Singapore is without a doubt a key
player in the international maritime community. Recognized as a
model for maritime development in the world, Singapore is well
placed
to drive and transform into an international maritime centre,
particularly in the light of accelerated international trade and
shipping. |
In establishing
the centre, NUS, together with the
Ministry of Transport,
the
Maritime and Port Authority
of Singapore and key industry players, have facilitated the
establishment of a maritime "think-tank" - an independent,
authoritative and internationally respected centre for maritime
studies, transcending traditional disciplinary research boundaries
of Law, Science, Engineering and Business.
The centre conducts
research in areas of interest and relevance to the industry,
provides consultancy services to the industry, in addition to
providing timely and informed views and research data and
projections. Our new office, at House No.12 Prince George's Park on
NUS campus, is slated for completion in October 2006, and will
feature a maritime resource centre open for public use. We welcome
anyone with an interest in the maritime industry to drop by our
office to make use of our services, or just to say hello.
Whether you are
visiting us for the first time, or a frequent visitor to our
website, I warmly encourage you to return to our website often to
explore our upcoming activities and information. We hope you will
find the information in our website useful. Pleasant browsing!
